Sarah + Jonathan | A Cranberry Winter Wedding In Grand Haven

It was a lovely summer afternoon when I met Sarah + Jonathan. We sat outside a coffee shop and chatted about flowers and our mutual love for the freshwater coast of Lake Michigan. Sarah’s eyes sparkled a little when she began telling me all about their vision to plan a winter wedding out in Grand Haven to honor Jonathan’s Mother. A cozy, snowy celebration in the part of Michigan where they truly fell in love.

Sarah and Jon first crossed paths while working together at an Irish Pub in Ann Arbor, MI. They flirted and totally had a crush until, though sad to leave each other, Sarah moved to Chicago to pursue her career. Years later in a lovely pinch of fate, Sarah was home visiting Michigan and unexpectedly ran into Jonathan! After such a pleasant surprise, they decided to keep the love alive and began dating long distance.

West Michigan was a great place for them to meet as Sarah was living in Chicago, and Jonathan near Detroit. They made countless memories together along the boardwalks of Grand Haven. Including the day they got engaged! One special summer day Sarah and Jonathan were beach side, laughing and basking in the glow of each other’s company. Sarah headed down to the water for a refreshing dip in Lake Michigan, and when she returned she found the most beautiful ring in the sand! And so, the wedding planning began!

It was surprisingly warm and sunny on their December wedding day. A welcome change in the season of cold, grey skies. Sarah and her girls prepped at the local salon, and were absolutely radiant in their elegant furs and cranberry gowns. We then made our way to meet Jonathan at his grandmother’s house in the woods for a very romantic first look. My eyes instantly filled with tears when Jonathan saw his bride for the first time. His love for her shined as brightly as the sun in the sky. After we passed around a few tissues, the bridal party and I toured the town enjoying the day and creating beautiful photographs before the ceremony. The ceremony was flawless down at the local church, and by the time we made it to the first dance… there was not a dry eye in the house. (See below!)

Sarah + Jonathan… Thank you for your kindness, love and laughter. I enjoyed our trip our to Grand Haven immensely. Thank you for inviting us to photograph such a beautiful celebration, and for being delightful clients to work with. All my best in every way throughout the years of your marriage!
